The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 when earth is stretched out 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
