The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
