The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
