The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven bursts asunder, 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 He will be judged with an easy account 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
