The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 in obedience to the commands of its Lord which are incumbent on it, (the human being will receive due recompense for his deeds). 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 shall call for destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
