The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 There is no living being but there is a protector over it. 4 Let man consider what he was made of: 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 That issueth from between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Most surely He is able to return him (to life). 8 The Day when secrets will be put on trial, 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 That this (Qur'an) is a decisive word 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
