Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 in a Garden on high, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
