Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 cushions ranged, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
