Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And linen spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
