Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
