Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
