Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
