Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn; 1 and ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
