Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
