Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
