Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
