Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter among My servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
