Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
