Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
