Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
