Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
