The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
