The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
