The Town (Al-Balad)

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
