The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
