The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
