The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
