The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
