The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
