The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
