The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
