The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
