The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
