The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
