The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
