The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
