He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
