AND UNTO [the tribe of] Thamud [We sent] their brother salih He said: "O my people! Worship God alone: you have no deity other than Him. Clear evidence of the truth has now come unto you from your Sustainer. "This she-camel belonging to God shall be a token for you: so leave her alone to pasture on God's earth, and do her no harm, lest grievous chastisement befall you. 73 Recall (the time) when We settled you in the land as the heirs of the tribe of Ad and how you established mansions in the plains and carved homes out of the mountains. Give thanks to God for His favors and do not commit evil in the land." 74 The chieftains of his people, who were scornful, said unto those whom they despised, unto such of them as believed: Know ye that Salih is one sent from his Lord? They said: Lo! In that wherewith he hath been sent we are believers. 75 Said the ones who waxed proud, 'As for us, we are unbelievers in the thing in which you believe.' 76 They then slew the camel and rebelled against the orders of their Lord saying, " Salih, if you are truly a Messenger, let that torment with which you have threatened us come to pass." 77 Thereupon an earthquake overtook them: and then they lay lifeless, in their very homes, on the ground. 78 Then he turned away from them and said: O my people I did certainly deliver to you the message of my Lord, and I gave you good advice, but you do not love those who give good advice. 79 And Lot, when he said to his people, 'What, do you commit such indecency as never any being in all the world committed before you? 80 "Verily, you practise your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (by committing great sins)." 81 But the answer of his people was only that they said, "Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure." 82 So We delivered him and his family, except his wife; she was one of those that tarried. 83 And We rained down on them a shower (of Stones). So witness the end of sinners! 84
