He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
