Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
