The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
