The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
