The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15
