Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said, “My Lord! Grant me respite till the day when they will all be raised.” 36 The Lord said, "Your request is granted 37 until the day of a known time." 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
