And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 (satan) said: 'My Lord, for Your perverting me, I shall make (matters) in the earth seem most fair to them and I shall pervert all, 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 It has seven gates and each gate is assigned for a certain group of people. 44
