We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 He replied: 'I will not prostrate to a mortal You have created of clay, from molded mud' 33 God said, "Then get out of here; for you are accursed, 34 And surely on you is curse until the day of judgment. 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 Allah said: "For sure you are granted respite 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 and for all such, behold, hell is the promised goal. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
