We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 When I have shaped him and ran My created soul in him fall down prostrating towards him'. 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 [Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?" 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. 34 and there shall be a curse upon you till the Day of Recompense." 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 Surely, as regards My servants, you have no authority, over them except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
