And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 When I have completed shaping him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall you down before him in prostration." 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 He said: 'iblis, what is the matter with you, that you do you not prostrate yourself' 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 and will be subjected to condemnation until the Day of Judgment." 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 He said: my Lord! because Thou hast led me to err I will surely make things fairseeming unto them on the earth and will surely seduce them all: 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
