AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, "You seem to be strangers". 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 Therefore go forth with your followers in a part of the night and yourself follow their rear, and let not any one of you turn round, and go forth whither you are commanded. 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 And the people of the town came rejoicing. 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
