When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 And [through Our messengers] We revealed unto him this decree: "The last remnant of those [sinners] shall be wiped out in the morn." 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They replied: "Did we not forbid you again and again to extend hospitality to all and sundry?" 70 [Lot] said: "[Take instead] these daughters of mine, if you must do [whatever you intend to do]!" 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We turned the township upside down and rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
